Berlin, August 26, 2025 — Canada and Germany have signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to expand cooperation on critical minerals, clean energy, and supply chain security—creating fresh opportunities for investors in resource and technology markets.

The agreement prioritizes securing supply chains for minerals vital to electric vehicles, aerospace, and defence, while expanding joint R&D and co-funded projects. It also lays the groundwork for a transatlantic hydrogen corridor and closer collaboration on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen trade—positioning Canada as a key supplier to Europe’s energy transition.

Canada appointed Isabella Chan (Natural Resources Canada) as Special Envoy, with Germany naming Matthias Koehler (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action) to drive implementation. This move builds on Canada’s launch of the Critical Minerals Production Alliance at the recent G7 Summit, signaling Ottawa’s intent to anchor itself at the center of global energy and mineral supply networks.

The announcement included several corporate deals:

  • Troilus Gold will supply copper concentrate to Germany’s Aurubis AG.
  • Torngat Metals (Québec) signed an MoU with VAC for long-term rare earth oxide supply.
  • Rock Tech Lithium confirmed a clean-energy partnership with Enertrag to power its German lithium operations with solar and offshore wind, reducing costs and carbon intensity.

Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized that the pact strengthens energy security, attracts investment, and supports job creation, while aligning with global decarbonization goals.

For investors, the partnership underscores Canada’s rising strategic importance in critical minerals and clean energy—offering new long-term growth prospects across mining, processing, and renewable energy value chains.
